I got a new phone!

Sunday, February 29th, 2004

Woo hoo! Check out the headline! I got a new phone! Now, this may not seem that exciting, but it’s the most interesting thing to happen to me recently, so it gets top billing. It’s a Samsung X426 and it’s really spiffy. I downloaded a bunch of cool ringtons for it from this neat site called Polyphonic Ringtonez, and it was actually free! I just had to use up some KB for my phone service, but I get 2MB free for the next 30 days, so it didn’t cost me anything. I’ve got all sorts of quality tones now from classic video games such as: Super Mario, F-Zero, Sonic the Hedgehog, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Tetris, Dr. Mario, and many more! Oh the excitement shall never end when hanging out with me now! I’ll be the popular kid on the playground from here on out, baby! Yeah!

So, in actual social news, I went out Friday night with Megs, Anna, Christina, John, and Cindy. We went to Rennie’s, Anna’s apartment, and then a relatively new place called Indigo’s. All cool stuff. We finished off Anna’s Raspberry Vodka. =)

Last night I went out with Megs, Dan, Corwin, and Lisa to go see Paycheck at the cheap theater. The movie was actually not bad, even though it was a fairly similar plot to all the other stories written by the same author–it was based on a book. Others include Blade Runner, Total Recall, and Minority Report. Sensing a theme here? But yeah, good flick nonetheless. It’s been a while since I saw a good popcorn action movie.

It’s so freaking boring here at work. I wish I had more to write about. I suppose I could do the 5 or 6 bug reports in the queue. That’d kill 5 minutes. Sigh

Thursday, February 19th, 2004

Hello, world. How goes it? So yeah, it’s been a week since I last updated, however I’m doing better than some slacker siblings of mine. ^.^

Work is going all right, if kinda slow. I have some terribly interesting news to tell, but not yet. Not until more is certain. I’ll let you all wonder and speculate on what this may be, but it’s big (and good!) if it happens. Oh, and for those of you who do know what’s up, please keep it to yourselves for the time being. Stay tuned!

With regards to my birthday, I had a very nice one, so thank you to all who made it so! I got some very nice things from friends and family and I had a good time seeing all of you who I could. I did not get totally trashed going out drinking on my birthday (twice in a lifetime is twice too many), but I did have a very nice time and I didn’t have to drive home–thanks Megs! Thank you to my family, both the immediate and the extended, for the nice gifts. They are all of good quality and I enjoy using them in my daily life. I won’t embarass anyone with the specifics, but I assure you I am quite pleased. =)

Server Down

Thursday, February 12th, 2004

Don’t know if anyone noticed, but the server was down for some ammount of time this morning due to a Comcast outtage. I guess all their attention is focused on their attmepted buyout of Disney, so they weren’t paying attention to their high speed cable internet customers in Eugene.

Well, today is my 23rd birthday, so if you know me, live nearby, and are 21 or over, feel free to drop by Soriah’s Cafe on 384 W. 13th Ave to say hi and buy me a drink. I should be there after 21:00 or so. For any last-minute shoppers who feel the need to buy me things, once again here is my wishlist.

For once in my life, I really had fun doing my taxes. This was largely due to the big refund I’m due to receive. Ah, refunds! Totally splendid. It should pay off some outstanding VISA debts.

In other news, work’s been fun. We’re doing some more training here and I get to both get a refresher course and I get to help out with Q&A and QA. Good stuff.

Not really much else to report, ‘cept that Thursday is my birthday. I’ll let y’all know how that goes, too.

Smack Dat Penguin!

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2004

OK, I’d better start off by explaining that headline before I get into other stuff. For a penguin-smacking good time, check out this here link. Just think of winter baseball. All you gotta do is click the mouse at the right time. I’ll let y’all figure the rest out on your own.

In other news, I’m in a much better mood than I was earlier. I was upset about my car because it smelled like burning plastic, which is rarely a sign of a happy, healthy vehicle. I feared that it was some kind of electrical short, which would end in “Gee, that’s gonna cost ya!” from my mechanic on the scale of $1200 or something. But NO! As the first sentence of this paragraph suggests, this was not the case. As I was walking back to my car at the end of the day, I chanced to see something under the car. At first, I thought it was the lights of the garage reflecting in a puddle under the car, so I was “Aw what the crap! Now my car’s leaking!” But upon further inspection, it turns out that I had driven over a plastic grocery bag the other day and the heat of my exhaust pipeline had melted it to itself, thus the wretched smell! Ah ha! I was no closer to eliminating the problem, but at least it’s not serious. I also learned that it’s really difficult to get to the exact middle of the underside of a car without a jack or by flipping it upside down, neither of which I was willing to do. So there it remains, but it’ll die eventually, and I am a happy Chris. ^.^

In closing, go see my forum.

New Forums Fully-Armed and Operational

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2004

Here is a quick update about two things. One is that the forum is up. Had a bit of a soft opening the past couple days, so consider this the Grand Opening of the ChrisWeb Forums! Just click the forum link in the nav bar to the side over there.

Second thing is that my birthday is coming up on the 12th and some people have asked about a list or something, so here it is. A few useful items as well as a general topic of my car. I know this one would be hard to shop for, but I assure you that it would be the most appreciated. My car causes me more stress than anything else, so to have some piece of mind about it for once would be invaluable. There’s a few things I want to get checked out about it–whirring sound from tranny, burning plastic smell, inoperative fog lamp, and rattling sound from the rear-right wheel well–but I fear what it will cost to get all those things diagnosed, let alone taken care of. So it remains a constant background worry everytime I drive, which is every day. So, in case anyone wants to know what it is I want the absolute most, there you go.

So yeah, enjoy the forums and have a super time out there.
