Back in Dublin

Monday, July 31st, 2006

It’s been two days, so here’s an update. As the subject suggests, we are back in Dublin. Our big plan for today was to visit the Jameson Distillery, and we were successfull in that venture. We got to be one of the folks who do the whiskey taste test at the end, so that was good fun. It was Megs and me and this local couple, who we hung out with afterwards for a few minutes and had a nice chat. Good stuff.

Yesterday we were in Cashel, which is a beautiful little town with this cool old ruin in it called The Rock of Cashel. We took a few photos there, so you’ll see those once we post the gallery. No Internet café there, hence my lack of posting yesterday. It was a slow evening and with only 4 channels on the television, so we ended up watching the movie Snatch on my cell phone. I had put it on there a while ago in case of a boring time, so it worked out well. =)

Tomorrow we go back to England, spend a day in Shakespeare country, and then it’s London, London, London until we get back to the States! Looking forward to that.

Oh, and before I forget, Megs has stolen her mom’s garden gnome and brought her on the trip with us. Megs has been updating a photo gallery for everyone’s amusement, especially her mom.

New Picture

So, on our way back from Inishmore today, Megs was all tuckered out and took the opportunity to catch a sleep. The results are captured here for your amusement. And yes, I know I’m a dead man now. =)

Oh, and in case you missed it, my site was down yesterday for a bit, so I posted an update over at my LiveJournal site. Go check it out for the missing update. I’ll merge it in with this site later, probably when I get back. I don’t feel like messing with it now.

Tomorrow we plan to head out to Cashel to go see the cool ruins there. We’ll stay at a nice B&B there and then back to Dublin before heading over to England again.

Word is the O’Briens are over here in Ireland at the moment. Any idea whereabouts? It would be absolutely hillarious to bump into them here. =)

Good times.

Megs and I have finally made it to the Aran Islands. This was one of the primary stops we wanted to be sure we made. When we first got here it was really rainy and windy, but now it’s merely partly cloudy. Inishmore really is a beautiful place with lovely rolling hills and lots of rocks. The whole place is basically made of rocks. We’re currently at Dun Angus waiting for our mini bus tour to come back to get us.

It’s starting to rain again, so I gotta go. Later!

Arrived in Galway

Friday, July 28th, 2006

We started off today in Dublin where we went to see Kilmainham Gaol (Jail), which would have been an absolutly horrible place to be staying. In the latter part of the jail’s existance as a prison, it held a lot of political prisoners from the various Irish rebelions. Lots of interesting history of Irish independance.

After leaving the jail we headed west to Galway. It’s a long drive and my left heel is killing me. Most cars are manual transmission here, and our rental is no exception. Oh well. We’re staying at a cute little B&B on what I can only assume is “Bed & Breakfast Drive.” There’s a million of the things there! Tomorrow we’re heading out to Inishmore, one of the Aran Islands. We may or may not be staying the night out there, we’ll see.

That’s about it for now! Hope my site comes back up, and if so, all further updates will be there.

Busy Day in Dublin

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

Today we spent seeing the sights of fabulous Dublin. We took the bus tour around the city to get things started, which we then followed with a trip to Trinity College. We saw lots of cool old books there including the Book of Kells, which is really old and impressive. After that was Dublin Castle, which is also full of cool historical stuff. I wish I were in a more descriptive state of mind at the moment, but I’m tired so this is all you get. Lastly, we went to the Guinness brewery which is always fun. They give you an entire pint of fresh cold Guinness at the end of the tour!

Oh, and I did manage to get another picture uploaded. This one is Megs on the ferry crossing from England. Tomorrow we head west to Gallway!

Finally in Dublin

Quick Update from Bath

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

I’ve actually managed to post up a picture from the road! This computer lab has computers with memory card readers so I can grab the photos from my camera. It also has software I can use to rotate and resize images, which is even less common. This picture was taken earlier today at the Roman Baths. I’ll post more pictures as I can, and of course there’ll be a gallery when I get back.

Over in Europe

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

In case anyone was worried, we’re totally fine over here. Got in on time, got a car, and got where we needed to get to. We stayed our first night last night at the Red Lion Inn (not affiliated with the American chain) in Salisbury. Quite a nice place, and parts of it are around 800 years old.

Today we drove from Salisbury up past Stonehenge (took pictures!) and are currently in Bath. We’ve seen the Roman baths and Bath Abbey and now we’re looking for a walking tour of the city.

Sorry if anyone’s been trying to reach me by phone, but I can’t seem to get it to work. It can see the local networks (O2, Orange, Vodaphone, and T-Mobile UK), but it can’t log in to them. Go figure. I’ll see if I can’t get it worked out. Again, the best way to reach us is via email.

Ciao for now!

Sunday, July 23rd, 2006

This is my second attempt at posting here, so it might be brief.

Anyways, as my headline implies, we are currently hanging out at LAX. Our flight is on time and it leaves in about an hour. We arrived here care of a nifty town car that dad hired. Our flight is UA934 in case anyone wants to track the progress of our flight online or something. We should arrive in London at 12:15 PM local time, which is 4:15 AM PDT. I’ll try to post here again ahortly after we arrive, and will continue to post throughout our journey.

If anyone needs to reach us over the next couple weeks, I’ll be checking email. I will also have my phone with me, but since it’s really expensive to use there, please don’t call if email will suffice. I also may not have it on all the time.

With that I’m gonna sign off! Thanks again for all of your best wishes on our wedding. We love you all!

Just Married

Saturday, July 22nd, 2006

As most of you should know by now, this weekend Megan and I got married! We just got back home and man are we tired. I slept on the plane for most of the trip back and considering I was in a coach seat that didn’t recline, that’s something. We’re both exhausted, but so glad we could see everyone who attended. Our love to you all, and keep an eye on this site for future updates as we begin our honeymoon travels tomorrow!

PS: If this site has issues while we’re traveling, I’m not going to be able to fix it on the road. If that is the case, bookmark my LiveJournal Page now for future reference, as I’ll post there if I cannot here.
