Ugh, Stuck Again

Saturday, December 30th, 2006

So we were driving down the I-5 this afternoon, heading home, when the clutch cable on my car broke. Got it towed to a mechanic who was still open and is also open tomorrow. He didn’t have the part and the only parts place open at the time didn’t either. He’s gonna call a couple more places tomorrow morning and we’ll go from there. We might have to order a part for a 1989 Daytona. The downside of that is that it won’t get here until Tuesday and it might not work at all. I’m gonna try to talk him in to jury-rigging up something tomorrow morning if we can’t find a part in town. Another alternative is driving clutchless, which I hear can be troublesome. We might leave the car here and take the train home or rent a car the rest of the way. Megan might be able to get my car on her way back down through California after returning up to Portland next weekend on another matter. Lastly, I could always sell the car and buy one that works.

The list previous is more or less in order of hope/likeliness. I doubt I’ll be selling the car. Anyways long story short (too late!), Megs and I are staying the night at a Holiday Inn Express in Redding. It’s a nice place and they have free wireless access and cable TV. If anyone wants to call to say hi, we’re bored, so feel free. =)

Last Day in Eugene

Friday, December 29th, 2006

I’m currently sitting in dad’s dining room with Megan, Matt, Kim and dad. Megs is playing Warcraft 3, Kim is playing Puzzle Pirates, Matt is eating French bread, and dad is finishing up dinner. We’re having burritos in ten minutes. =)

It’s been really great to visit with everyone up here, but tomorrow Megs and I are driving back down to L.A. We’re going to make the trip in two days this time, because we are no longer CRAZY. We’re probably going to stop somewhere in Stockton or something.

Time has now passed, and it is burrito time!

Up in Portland

Wednesday, December 27th, 2006

As the headline says, Megs and I are currently up in Portland. I really don’t like this keyboard much, so I’m going to be brief. Perhaps next time I’ll just take the laptop to Starbucks or something. Anyways, it’s been nice seeing everyone up here in Portland and down in Eugene. We should be heading back down there tomorrow afternoon, however we may be up in Portland a bit longer than we had originally planned. Sadly, Megs’ grandmother passed away yesterday, so we might remain available up here if it seems prudent to do so. She was old, and after a number of strokes, this was not a surprise to anyone, but it’s still really sad. Megan and I are really glad she was able to make it to our wedding last summer and we have some nice photos of that to always remember her by.

That’s all for now. I’ll try to post again before heading back down to L.A. this weekend. We’re likely going to be making the drive in two days rather than all at once this time, so that’d put us back at home sometime the afternoon of the 31st.

Merry Christmas, everyone, and a Happy New Year!

On Our Way

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

As you can see by the timestamp on this post, it’s ass-early out. Megs and I are all packed, showered, dressed, and ready to go, so as soon as I get a quick snack of some oatmeal and tea we start driving north. Isis is freaking out right now, which is not terribly out of the ordinary, but I think she suspects. I’ve arranged for a couple of my co-workers to check in on her while we’re away and make sure she’s fed and all that.

Well, I guess that’s it. Expect more posts as I get to them. Next time in Oregon!

Why Not to Upgrade

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

Here’s a detailed paper on why not to “upgrade” to Windows Vista and why it’s still gonna suck even if you don’t. I read the entire thing and it made me sad.

In happier news, tomorrow we head off to Oregon! Yay!

No Jury Duty for Megs

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

The headline says it all, really. After a week of being on call for jury duty, it turns out they will not be requiring her services. She is free and clear for a year, and our Christmas plans are a go! These plans are as follows: Saturday we drive up to Springfield and stay the night at dad’s place. Sunday night we stay at mom’s place. Monday (Christmas) morning at mom’s, late morning at dad’s, and then Megs and I drive up to Portland for Christmas afternoon at her mom’s place. Tuesday and Wednesday nights are in Portland doing Portland-y things. Thursday we drive back down to Eugene where we spend the night… somewhere. Friday we spend one last day and night in Eugene before driving back down to L.A. on Saturday. Sunday night we host the Eugene Ex-Pats in L.A. New Year’s Eve Party!

And finally, a new holiday classic. I know it’s from last year, but I still think it’s awesome.

Site Changes (again)

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

So, once again I futz with the site design here a bit. I went back to the default WordPress look, mostly cuz I never really liked the one I was using. Also, it’s more compatible with various plug-ins I wanna use.

It’s back! ChrisWeb Forums are back with a vengeance! All the old posts are gone, as this is an entirely new system. Please let me know how it works for you. It’s still REALLY, REALLY pre-beta right now, so I expect it to blow up horribly and kill many, many innocent people.

Gift from Work

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

Cool! I just got Pirates 2: Revenge of Parlay from the awesome management here at work. It’s the 2-disc collector’s edition (natch), so if anyone was planning on getting this for Megs or myself…. uhhh… we already got one, you see. Iz very nice.

In other news, Megs has not had to go in for jury duty today or yesterday, but she remains on call for the week. Also, our plans to drive up north remain with us driving up on Saturday. Megs has finished all her Christmas shopping and I’m about done as well. I’m glad we’re driving up, otherwise it’d be hard to move all these packages!

[EDIT 12/19/2006 17:50:] Megan also does not have jury duty Wednesday. That is all.

Hacking Hollywood

Friday, December 8th, 2006

I came across a recent posting on Slashdot listing a few things that provided me with some amusement. We’ve got the Top 20 Movie Hackers, the Top 10 Movie Servers, Things Code Doesn’t Do in Real Life, and the classic Guidelines to Development on the Hollywood Operating System.

In other news, Matt (brother) will be arriving via train from Santa Cruz in just a couple hours. He’s gonna stay the night with Megs and me and then I’m gonna drive him over to Mudd where he will be for a week or so. Good times.

Wish List posted

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

Mom emailed me this morning asking if I had a Christmas wish list, so I put one together here on the site for any who are curious. It’s over there in the sidebar to the left, or just click on this handy link here. I will probably add to it over the next couple weeks, so check back if you care to. This is just what I could think up off the top of my head.
