Riding For Pain and Gain

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

So, I dusted off my trusty bicycle (literally) Tuesday and cruised the few miles out the Chandler Bike Path. Man, am I out of shape; I nearly killed myself with a seven mile round trip! So, of course I did it again the next day, but this time going the other way up to Laurel Canyon and Sherman Way. Nearly the same distance, however I didn’t feel like I was gonna pass out at the end of this one. The problem with ride #2 was that my butt was all sore from riding the day before. I had to spend most of the trip standing on the pedals. 🙁 No more riding for me for a couple of days. Megs wants me to get a cushier bike seat, but I think I’ve just grown soft. The seat I have now lasted me all through college without a posterior problem, so it should be fine in time.

There’s a group around here called the Midnight Riders, who are basically an informal group of cyclists who ride around LA from 22:00 to midnight or so. The North Hollywood group meets on the last Saturday of the month a few blocks from our apartment, however I’ve got plans so it’ll have to wait until July. There’s hundreds of cyclists, so it’s totally safe. I’ve seen ’em around before when I’ve been out on that Saturday.and it sounds like fun! A friend of mine from work went with them last month and recommends the experience.

I mentioned plans for this weekend, and it’s simple enough: Tim’s birthday arrives, so we go celebrate. Good times.

Home Sick, but Here’s Some Pictures

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

I’m home sick with a cold right now, but it gives me a chance to upload some more pictures and link them. A couple weeks ago, Megs’ folks were visiting and we all went up and visited mom in the mountains. Then, last weekend Megs and I went back to visit mom with Grandma and Grandpa Gallagher. I put the collected photos from these two ventures here in the same gallery.

Gah! Girr… Grumble…

Don’t you hate it when you make lots of awesome changes to a file, then accidentally delete it, never to be seen again? Makes me sad. And now that it’s almost 19:00 on a Friday, I just don’t have the energy to do it all again. It can wait ’til Monday. I’m going home.

“What are you doing this weekend, Chris?” I hear you ask. Nothing. Got nothing planned at all. It’ll be great. Still if you’re around L.A. and wanna do something, give a call. I’m not hiding or anything, just got no plans.

Slacking with the Blogging

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

Sorry it’s been so long since my last post. After the blogstravaganza at the beginning of the month, it just sort of petered out for me and all the others.

Still, things have been a-happening! First off, for the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, we got the usual crew together to go see the new Indiana Jones flick. To make a long postmortem discussion shorter: it was all right. Not quite the magic of the original movies, but still enjoyable.

On Sunday we had a wonderfully successful party at our apartment complex involving the whole gang, plus our neighbors. All told, we had about 14 people at our place at once, which is I believe a new record. I took some pictures. I was really happy to get the neighbors involved. They’re close to our age and it felt a bit like the old dorm setting with people roaming from apartment to apartment. Good times.

On Monday I got a new camera. It’s my favorite new toy. Bought it with my monies from the gov’ment. Takes excellent pictures and uses all my old lenses from my 35mm film camera.

Camera self portrait 2

This past weekend, Megs’ folks came down for a visit, giving me plenty of opportunity to make use of my new camera. On Saturday we went up to visit mom where I took some loverly pictures. It was really nice to spend some time with family.
