Yet Another Link Fest

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Once again I feel that I should post some sort of update, but I have no idea what to write about. Not a whole lot going on, really.

Last weekend Megs and I watched Across the Universe and The Prestige with Matt, Anna, and Tim. Both good movies we’d been meaning to watch for a while now.

This coming weekend is both Halloween and Megs‘ birthday, so we’re watching Alien and Aliens on one night and doing dinner (and maybe Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection, if we can stand it) on another, again with the usual suspects.

In more geeky news, I’ve figured out how to put DVDs onto my iPod for the upcoming Christmas trip, so I’ve been encoding many a m4v file. My PC can encode in roughly real time, so it takes about as long to watch a movie as it does to prepare it for my iPod, but that’s OK. We’ve still got some time until we leave for Oregon.

Oh! And that reminds me, Megs and I got ourselves a nifty device for watching movies on the train, rather than on the little iPod screens. Don’t let the price scare you–we got it on clearance at Best Buy for little more than half that. Also, in the non-traveling season we can use it as one of those nifty digital picture frame things.

Lastly, I didn’t carve this. Just found it on the Internet, but somehow it spoke to me.

Happy Halloween!

Twitter Patter

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

Some of my readers already know of so-called Internet “microblogging” service Twitter. What they may not know is that I have a Twitter feed of my own now. Basically, it’s a place where I can post about the minutia of whatever in 140 characters or less per post. I can do so via the web site or via text messaging on my phone. Interested parties can “subscribe” to my “feed” and keep up with what I’m posting about. Oh the joy of it all. Not sure if I’ll ever post there or what, but since everyone else was doing it…I wanted to be cool. 😛

Megs and I are slowly settling on some kind of holiday plans, so here’s what we got so far: Thanksgiving is gonna be down here in Los Angeles. Probably down in Long Beach with whatever relatives we can manage to find there. For Christmas we’re planning on taking the train up to Eugene, staying there for a few days, driving up to Portland for a week, back down to Eugene for a few more days, then train back down to LA. Whew! If anyone is gonna be in the Eugene/Portland area in the last half of December, let me know and maybe we can say hi.

I hope this does not happen

Jury Duty Over

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

Well, that’s it for my civic duty for now. We reached a guilty verdict and once again I was the foreman. I’m gettin’ good at this, which is not a good thing to be good at. I don’t want to be doing this every fall, you know. :-/
