Hot Wired My Heater

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

The headlines really says it all, but let me explain. Last night was really cold, and it turns out that part of that was because our heater failed to turn on. The pilot light was still lit, so it was still getting gas, but thermostat was failing to tell it to ignite. Or, as it turns out, the thermostat was telling, but the heater wasn’t doing. I opened up the little door at the bottom of the heater and found where the wires from the thermostat go. It’s also where the wires from the Pilot-Light-Still-Lit Sensor go; I don’t know what it’s really called. Anyways, on a hunch I short-circuited the ends and it fired right up! It even turns on and off when you set the thermostat low and high again. Guess the relays or whatever are worn out. I dunno. Anyways, we have heat again, which is what’s important. Also, now I get to say I hacked my heater. =)

More Pictures from Christmas 2008

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

The subject says it all, really. I’ve posted more pictures from this last Christmas and I’ve broken them up into galleries: Train ride north, Springfield, Portland, Wine & Cheese Party, Train ride south. I’ll be posting a few more soon from last weekend’s Christmas 5.0 down in Long Beach, but that should tide folks over for now. =)

Merry Christmas

Home Again, Home Again

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

A little late, but better than never I suppose. We made it back just fine on the train. Practically on time, even! Took lots of pictures on the train, both northbound and southbound. Also took lots of pictures while up in Oregon, so I hope to get those all processed and posted soon. For those who can’t wait, I’ve posted the pictures from Kim and Mirm’s Wine & Dessert Party, as I promised (threatened) many people I would. Please note that these are not ALL of the pictures from the night, just the least incriminating. I’ll save the others in case someone runs for elected office someday and I need money.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
