Love It

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

It’s hard to describe exactly why I love my new job so much. For one, I’m contractually bound to NOT describe in too much detail what goes on here. But also, it’s hard to put into words the atmosphere around here. It’s a spirit of “can do” and “whatever it takes to get it done” that I find invigorating. That part doesn’t exist? Build one. That software doesn’t normally do that? Make it. I love that.

I can give some benign details, though. My desk is pretty basic, but I have a nice computer with two 24″ monitors. Also, I have the most advanced office telephone I’ve ever seen! It’s a “Cisco IP Phone”, which I didn’t even know existed before this week. Lots of bells and whistles. Also, everyone I work with is awesome and really good at what they do, which seems to be a theme at Disney.

This week I’ve been down to Disney’s California Adventure at Disneyland Resort twice already to help with installing some stuff at the Blue Sky Cellar. Can’t say more than that, but check it out next time you’re at the Park!

That’s all for now, but know that I am a Happy Chris at the moment! =)

New Job, Day One

Monday, January 24th, 2011

Today was my first day at the new gig in Glendale, and it was great! After getting sorted out with HR and Security, the first thing I was told to do was go to Disneyland to help with the installation of something cool. After getting lunch backstage down there, we came back up to the office and I got another tour of the facilities up here, which are full of neat and/or cool stuff. A couple of snags with I.T. and accounts to sort out, but all-in-all a fairly smooth transition.

Naturally, I can’t go into details about what all the cool and neat stuff actually *is*, but perhaps if you visit one of our fine Parks you will some day see the fruits of my continuing labors.

It’s (still) Disney!

So, enough being coy, here’s what’s up:

I got a new job!

I’m still with Disney, but instead of the Disney Interactive Media Group, I’m now going to be an Imagineer over at Walt Disney Imagineering in Glendale. And yes, this means I will actually have to drive to work now instead of walking across the street, but it will be totally worth it. Imagineering, if you don’t know, is where they design the theme park attractions. A lot of amazing, creative, and wonderful stuff goes on over there and I’m super psyched to be able to join in! I will be part of a small team that does VR pre-vis of upcoming ideas. I’ll be working with cool people and cutting-edge technology, so what could be better?

So yeah. That’s what’s new with me. Again, super psyched! 🙂
