Paternity Leave: Day 1

Monday, August 4th, 2014

Overall, today was all right. Biggest problem was that she did NOT want the bottle! That’s not where food comes from, it seems. Also, there was a possum hanging out in the driveway bugging the dog, but Samantha didn’t seem to care about that.

A possum

I went around the possum and we took a little trip to Philly’s Best for my Monday cheese steak sandwich. After my lunch, we tried to go to the car wash, but there was a line and once the car stopped moving she got fussy, so I bailed. Went to Target after that to look at TV trays, but didn’t end up buying any. Got some hot water from the Starbucks inside Target to mix up some formula for her, then found a park and tried her lunch again. She was still not going for it, so we went home.

Upon arriving back home, the possum I had left (alive) in the driveway was still there, so I called animal control and they came and confirmed he was no longer alive and took him away. Both sad and gross.

I eventually got Sam to drink some formula and take a 20 minute nap, which was nice. Later, Megs got home and she’s feeding her now.

Paternity Leave Begins

Monday, August 4th, 2014

Tomorrow morning Megan goes back to work for the first time since Samantha was born, which leaves me in charge. I’m on official paternity leave from work for the next five weeks, so it’s just me and the baby during the day. Intellectually, I know this will be fine, of course, but at the same time, it’s 1:45 a.m. and I’m pretty awake here. I guess it’s more just the general feeling of going into the unknown.

Honestly, I’m generally looking forward to it, but I’m not sure how much freedom I’ll have for adventures. She may be extra high-maintenance for a while–just feeding, screaming, rocking, soothing, and (hopefully) napping. But if I can get her down for a bit, we can travel about. Not sure where we’ll go, but I’d like to get a Lion King photo out as Vasquez Rocks. Maybe show her off at work again for the folks that may have missed her visit the first time. Maybe visit the family in Long Beach. Maybe just a trip to the store. If I’m really lucky, she’ll nap long enough for me to get through a bit of video game backlog. I’ve been meaning to play Bioshock Infinite since forever, and I’ve been itching to play through Portal 2 again.

Thought I’d have more to say, but I guess not.
