The title says it all, but I’ll repeat here because it’s awesome: Megan passed the California Bar Exam!!! Some proof:

I took this the night the results came back to send to Megs as proof that she had indeed passed the Bar Exam.

I’m so proud of my wife! I knew she could do it!

I finally got the Facebook “download-your-data” thing to work, so here’s a compilation of what I’ve been up to for the past few months.

NaNoWriMo and System Administration

Monday, November 1st, 2010

So, I hear that November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). As I understand it, one is supposed to actually write that novel everyone always says they’re going to write, or at least 50,000 words of it, all in one month. Now, I’ve never been much good at fiction, but I used to write here more often. Seems a good excuse for me to start again, especially since I almost didn’t get a post up at all last month!
My work situation has shifted, slightly. I still work for Disney at the same office with the same people, but now I’m more of a sysadmin kinda guy, which is pretty spiffy. I’ve always liked that kinda stuff, so now I get to do it for serious instead of just screwing around with it. I’ll be managing our internal Windows and *nix development systems, many of which I already have some familiarity with. I’m working on learning about an authentication system called Likewise, which lets Unix and Mac-type systems authenticate against Microsoft Active Directory servers, which will simplify our username situation a lot. I’m also learning about CruiseControl and Hudson, both of which are continuous integration tools. Neat stuff.
All for now. Will post more soon, etc.

My Damn Car… Again!

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

Once again, I’m having car troubles. This time it seems to be something electrical. Here’s what happened:
I went grocery shopping. First to Trader Joes for some wine, then to Hows for our usual groceries. After getting back to the car, I went to start it up and nothing. Everything shuts down. The lights on the dash lit dimly, but that’s it. No engine turning over, nothing. If I open/close the door after a moment, the car seems to reset and dome light comes back on and I can put the car in accessories mode and the radio works, etc. I can even put the ignition into the “On” position and I can power the windows and stuff, however, if I try to start it, everything shuts down again until I “reset” it. Sometimes I can hear the solenoid click, but only after the car has reset. I checked and all the fuses appear to be intact. Also, jump-starting did no good either.
My guesses are: 1) it’s a problem with the solenoid, 2) it’s a problem with the starter, 3) it’s a problem with the ignition, 4) there’s a broken “fusible link” somewhere, 5) broken relay, and/or 6) there’s a short somewhere else. #4 has happened with this car before, as has #3, albeit the symptoms were different (the cylinder for the key was physically broken in that case), #2 happened with my first car (Taurus), and the others are all likely because my car has always a weak electrical system.
Any mechanics out there? =(

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

This morning the whole office trekked down to Hollywood to have an all-hands update meeting at the El Capitan theater. The Upside of this was that afterwards we got to see a special advanced screening of the new Disney*Pixar movie “Up”! First “out of the can” screeing of the film, they said! Got free popcorn and soda too! And it was during work hours! Great movie. The dogs were hillarious. Everyone should go see it!
This has been the best Wednesday in recent memory.

I just found out when my 10-year high school reunion is scheduled to be: August 15th, 2009. Here’s the official page. I thought I’d post it here in case there’s anyone out there from the class of 1999 who doesn’t know. I think I plan on attending.

That Time Again

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Well, once again it’s February, which means I’ll be 28 years old in a week and a half. For those who are curious, I’ve updated my wish list. I really don’t know what to do for my birthday this year. Maybe go out to a bar or restaurant with some friends and hang out at our place afterwards. Nothing big. No one really cares about turning 28, least of all me. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Any celebration will probably be this coming weekend, cuz the following weekend is Valentine’s Day.
In other news, I’ve been seeing a lot of activity on Facebook lately. Here is my profile if you have yet to befriend me there.
Oh, and since I’ve mentioned on this site just about every other cell phone I’ve ever owned, I should probably let you know that I’ve joined the ranks of Blackberry users, and I love it! I’ve got a 8310 Curve, which is just so damn nifty! Even has a little Facebook app. =)

Got this link from a friend, but it’s been circulating around the net for a few days. Damn funny.
