Went For a Drive

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Last night I wanted to go for a drive, now that my car was working. I headed north on Lankershim until I couldn’t go north anymore, then I jogged over to the west and continued north again, then I wrapped around to the east on the other side of the hills and came back around the long way through Glendale. Got good and lost and had a wonderful time just going on dead reckoning. Luckily, it was near sunset so I could always tell which way was west. Here’s a map of my travels:

I generally avoided highways until I was done wandering and decided it was time to head back to base. Also, I wanted to drive fast. =)

Up and Down

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Last week, Megs and I took an extended weekend trip up to Eugene and back again for my 10-year high school reunion. We left Wednesday morning for San Francisco where we stayed at Badier’s place for the night, before continuing on to Eugene the next day. Since Wednesday and Thursday were largely just travel, all I had was Friday to see folks who I would not be seeing on Saturday at the reunion itself.
Busy trip, but it was good to see folks. Pictures of the reunion BBQ and cocktail party. Sunday was the drive back, part one. Stayed with Badier again Sunday night, then finished up the trip on Monday.

Summer Time and Not Much

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Once again another summer in Los Angeles brings the heat. It’s been getting up into the 90’s the past week, but at least we got off easy last month with the so-called “June Gloom”, which I rather enjoyed. But enough about the damned weather!
In social news, good buddy Tim O’Brien has departed our shores to move back east to New York. He claims he wants to be near family, but we know it’s just because he hates us. But seriously, we’ll miss you dude. We’ll be holding auditions for new friends in the coming weeks.
Megs is still doing her law school thing, but this summer is a little different in that she’s doing legal clinic instead of the more traditional classes. It’s been interesting experience and I think it’s great! Fall term is going to be brutal, so don’t expect to hear much from her once September rolls around. I’ll try to relay anything pertinent.
A month from now is my ten-year high school reunion! I plan on attending, so it’s just a matter of working out travel details back to Eugene. Looks like driving is gonna be cheapest, especially if we manage to bum some couch off someone roughly halfway north.
I finished scanning in old film photos, as I mentioned in my previous post, but I still have quite a few digital photos I can post. They’re not quite as much fun because a) they’re not as old, and b) I’ve posted quite a lot of them already. I’ll probably re-post some of them to Facebook to mess with the friends over there. I know a lot of folks there have not seen my old albums, so it’s new to them!
Here’s a picture of me and the family. I’m probably in about 6th grade here:

Egads! A Post!

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

So yeah, for those of you not on Facebook, I must have seemed to have fallen off the face of the Earth. I find that I don’t post here as often now that I have another outlet for the random thoughts that float through my head. But in any case, here is the State of Chris.
When last we posted, Megs and I were up in Palo Alto for her moot court competition. It went very well, I thought, however her team did not advance. Still a good experience all around. Week after that, Matt was down visiting on his spring break and at the end of the week we went up to mom’s place to help with some home improvement stuff up there. It was good to see mom and Matt and Kim all at the same time.
This past weekend, Cindy was down visiting from Seattle and we had some good times with her, Matt, Anna, Kim, Jacques, Tim, Badier and all the rest. Thursday night Cindy, Anna, and I went to a nice pub. Friday night we had game night at our place with Cindy, Matt, Anna, Tim, and Jacques in attendance. Played some Munchkin and some Guitar Hero. Saturday Megs, Cindy, Matt, Anna, Tim and I all went down to Venice Beach to get a little sun, sand, and shopping. After it got dark it was time to head to Pasadena for Badier’s big going-away party. I can’t believe he’s moving away! We all had a great time and I did not drink to excess.
Today was much more mellow. Got lunch with Megs, and then went to Matt and Anna’s place to play a (relatively) quick game of Catan before Cindy had to catch her plane home. We were gonna get together tonight to watch Cowboy Bebop, but we decided to postpone until next Sunday. This weekend has been packed enough, and I think we all needed some time to relax and regroup before the work week begins again.
Oh, and in other news MATT C. AND ANNA GOT ENGAGED YESTERDAY!!! We’re all very happy and wish them the absolute best!
Once again, I bury the lead in my blog post. It’s not the first time and it probably won’t be the last.
I’ll try not to neglect good ol’ ChrisWeb as much going forward. Chris loves you!

Blackberry Postin'

Friday, March 20th, 2009

So this is my first attempt at updating the ol’ blog here with my new Blackberry. So far, not too bad.
Anyways, Megs and I are currently in the lounge at the Westin Hotel in Palo Alto awaiting her moot court team’s final practice session in a few minutes. The actual competition is later tonight, so best wishes to Megs and her team!
The weather has been absolutely lovely up here, and I wish we had more time to just hang out here and enjoy it. It’d be nice if we could visit with friends in the area too, but it looks like we’re not going to have time.
Take care, everyone! Chris loves ya!

More Pictures from Christmas 2008

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

The subject says it all, really. I’ve posted more pictures from this last Christmas and I’ve broken them up into galleries: Train ride north, Springfield, Portland, Wine & Cheese Party, Train ride south. I’ll be posting a few more soon from last weekend’s Christmas 5.0 down in Long Beach, but that should tide folks over for now. =)

Merry Christmas

Home Again, Home Again

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

A little late, but better than never I suppose. We made it back just fine on the train. Practically on time, even! Took lots of pictures on the train, both northbound and southbound. Also took lots of pictures while up in Oregon, so I hope to get those all processed and posted soon. For those who can’t wait, I’ve posted the pictures from Kim and Mirm’s Wine & Dessert Party, as I promised (threatened) many people I would. Please note that these are not ALL of the pictures from the night, just the least incriminating. I’ll save the others in case someone runs for elected office someday and I need money.

Back in Eugene/Springfield

Friday, December 26th, 2008

We made it safely down from Portland into Springfield yesterday. Lots of family, good food and good times. Internet connection right now is kinda flaky, so I’ll keep this short and post pictures later. The weather here is just rainy and cold. No more snow and ice, which is good. We’ll be in town until next Tuesday, the 30th.
Merry Christmas, everyone!

Snowed In

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

Well, here we are up in Portland, and if you’ve been following the news, you know that it’s been crazy wintery up here.

Exhibit A

Exhibit A

As you can see, dad’s car is immobile at the moment. Sorry dad. We’ll try to get it dug out by Christmas so we can get back to Eugene/Springfield. Hopefully the weather will have improved by then.
But anyways, we’re doing fine just hanging out here at the house. Megs’ folks still have power and gas, so we’re warm an entertained; we’ve been watching a lot of movies. Also, the Safeway up the street is still open, so we’re plenty stocked up on food. We’re having pork roast for dinner tonight!
Hope everyone is well and warm wherever they are. Happy Winter Solstice!

Arrived in Eugene/Springfield!

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

As the headline shows, we’ve made it to our destination in Oregon. Our train ride was quite nice and I Twittered the hell out of it. Lots of little micro updates along the way there. Anyways, it’s really cold out up here in the northwest. Still snow on the ground and another storm on the way. Sara was nice enough to give us a ride to dad’s place, despite the poor road conditions. Dad’s due in later tonight, again weather permitting. Why does Christmas have to be in such a poor travel time of year? Megs and I took a lot of pictures from and on the train, so I’ll post those soon as I get a chance.
Again, if anyone in Oregon wants to say hi, please drop me a line!
